Mis-en-scene Blog post

My group in the mis-en-scene project worked to fully represent our character using all types of representation from visual to audio. Our goals were to add props and objects, have the viewer be able to fully visualize the setting, and also have the viewer understand our character completely using auditory elements. Our character is a middle-aged single father librarian who helps kids learn and read.

Our group created many things to represent our character. Our character's name was Sam Sampson, and we represented him by including audios of him speaking about himself and him giving a tour of the library he worked at. We created images with Ai to give a visual representation of what Sam Sampson looked like. We created a small library in Roblox to visualize where our character works and added a small library with a book. We organized our character elements by starting with a description of our character using audio and then included the mood board on the next tab (we organized everything in tabs using chrome). Then after that it was a full tour of the library with a voice describing how much he enjoys being a librarian. Finally, we included a story time with Sam Sampson reading the book to the kids (viewer).

We developed our character using auditory elements and visual elements such as props. Some props that we used include a book, candy, and blankets/carpet. We located our character to work at a big and nice library. We developed the character using these types of elements by putting it all together with the auditory element of the project and it all eventually came together into one piece. We are proud of our project and how we represented our character and overall, we think we did very good in our project.

Genre research blog post

 Action

What is Action?

Action is a genre that shows a series of a multitude of heroic quests, physical conflict, visually expressed stakes, and stock character roles. Some genre heavy conventions in action consist of stunt heavy film making, fast paced editing, and high production values. Some institutional conventions also consist of star-driven marketing and sequel strategies. The typical target audience for the genre action are teens to mid 30's adult males.

Genre Conventions - Content

The content within Action includes things such as heroic quests and more that will be talked about. Heroic quests specifically ensures that the central character pursues a set objective. Physical conflict consists of sequences of fights, shootouts, and chases. Stakes expressed visually usually consist of a character being in danger and a sense of urgency amongst the viewers. Stock character roles simply mean that a pair of characters correlate with one another like a hero and a sidekick.

Genre Conventions - Production Techniques

Production techniques are crucial within an action genre because they need to be executed correctly to give the feeling of an action movie or series. Stunt heavy film making is consists of large crews and stunt doubles or even the actors themselves doing stunts mixed with careful choreography. Fast paced editing and camerawork use rapid cuts, close quarter framing, and whip pans to give the fast-paced feeling. Sound effects like gunshots or even sword slashing help impact the camera work and editing. High production values are required because you need the budget for stunts, effects, and locations to be an able to film and shoot an action movie.

Institutional Conventions

Institutional conventions such as star driven marketing, franchise and sequel strategy, event timing and release timing globally, and finally teaser driven campaigns.

Blog Posting Sound Project

Sound Project #1 and #2 blog post

I learned how to create foley in the videos. I learned how to create synchronous foley sounds. I learned how to create a soundscape. I learned how to use a sound motif when creating sounds for my one-word film.

Sound project instructions #1- Tell a story through various sounds effects and auditory techniques. Choose a scene to develop the project and you may only use 7 words. Create an outline of what to accomplish. Four sound effects must be made using foley.

Sound project instructions #2- Add sounds to your one-word film. Develop a list of sounds in outline form to implement them into your one-word film.

Approach to sound project #1- Our approach was to describe a high school football game of players warming up and then the game starting and the player breaking a bone. We executed this by using foley for sounds like breaking bone and players hitting each other.

Approach to sound project #2- Our approach was to use foley for most of the sounds, so we didn't have a problem synchronizing it to the one-word film video.

Brainstorming project #1- We brainstormed an idea simple but fun to create because you can imagine a lot going on during the audio.

Brainstorming project #2- We decided to use foley because it would be best to synch our film to the sounds by watching the film and creating the sounds simultaneously.

Outline #1- Our outline helped us because we knew exactly what was going to happen in order, so we knew to overshoot every scene trying to be described through the audio.

Outlie #2- Our outline helped us organize how we were gonna time our foley sounds to our video.

Editing resource #1- We decided to mostly fade our sounds so it can have a smooth feeling and not very choppy when trying to cut to a different sound and a smooth sound will help better understand what is trying to be exhibited.

Editing resource #2- Me and partner also decided to use fade and slow down some sounds we hadn't used for foley so it can sychronise better with one-word film.

Analysis #1- I think me and my partner didn't execute the soundscape well enough and we can do better on that

Analysis #2- I think me and my partner did not use enough sounds to represent what was going on the the audience and i also think that the sounds werent synchronised well enough to make the film look smooth upon firts look.
