Reflection of project

 Portfolio Project Reflection

This project was for sure a journey. Through multiple roadblocks me and my partner Selena we ran into it ended up good.Through all the filming, editing, brainstorming, storyboarding, etc.. Throughout all of these weeks I'm suprised I made it all the way through learning new things all the way. I finished filming everythinggggg it's been a long journey and I appreciate my partner and Mrs. Stoklosa for helping me all the way through.

Post-Production of CCR

For the first video, the editing was smooth and I took a free audio from YouTube and I used free images from google to display things I was talking about. I did end up using horror conventins in my film with a scary v/h/s effect and a quick glitch as the start. 

For the second video, the editing was good I used Canva to create the Spotlight Shows logo and I used a free applause audio from YouTube to create a talk show effect. Thats all the editing I used for the second video.

 

Production of CCR's

The production of my CCR's went very smoothly. The first one went just as planned in my previous blog, where I spoke about how I was going to answer questions 2 and 4 and create a YouTube-type video. The video, in fact, was based on Coryxkenshin, and the horror conventions were most definitely displayed. The filming was done while I walked back in forth from my room to throughout the entire living room. 

The second video went smoothly as well but the only problem I could say was memorizing the script as question 3 had a long script. Besides that it went smooth, I used my mom's office to film them because it appeared as a professional setting.

CCR Project Ideas

 Project Ideas

Project ideas for my CCR have been running through my mind ever since I heard about it. For my first CCR I Plan on creating a somewhat kind of YouTube video that will be me answering questions, but I will be incorporating horror conventions into it to engage the audience and it's an idea that comes from a YouTuber named CoryxKenshin. For my second video I plan on creating an interview and it will be me and my mother speaking about questions in it up front. For my first video I plan to incorporate questions 2 and 4 and for my second video I plan to incorporate questions 1 and 3. Each will deep dive on the questions presented and, in the blogs, previously I may improvise the script if needed. 

CCR Question #4

 How did you integrate technologies-software hardware and online in this project?

For this question, I will discuss all technologies used, hardware, software's, and how I used the technologies used in production. All of these ideas were displayed in Mrs. Stoklosa's notes she provided on discussing our CCR questions. 

Script:

"Technologies, very interesting question. All the technologies I used were, a phone, Clipchamp, and Canva. The way we mainly got our lighting was through a flashlight who our main character toted around the entire film. The filming was simply on a phone and literally nothing else was used. Editing tools that were used were Clipchamp and it was very simple to use and affective. Graphic design was completely made in Canva with the use of premium very affective very productive. The only obstacles I ran into was using some of Clipchamp's editing tools as I have never run into it in previous projects such as the music video that was produced. Overall, the technologies I used went smoothly and editing, filming, graphic designing were all not a problem."

CCR Question #3

 How did your production skills develop throughout this project?

For this question, I will discuss the process throughout the production process, how I began research and planning, and a reflection on my progress throughout the project. All of this was instructed by my teacher Mrs. Stoklosa in her notes that she gave us. 

Script:

"So, how my skills developed, very good question thank you. Throughout this entire project I was able to develop my skills every step of the way. I began with brainstorming ideas in the areas I deeply enjoyed. Subsequently it fell into the horror genre, and I was able to expand on my idea in further story boards me and my partner created. Research began in the V/H/S, found footage era of horror and we soon discovered it would be somewhat too challenging to be able to expand on it and achieve that feeling of found footage so in the end we decided on a horror that isn't necessarily found footage but contains all of the conventions that would be found in a found footage. Planning was easy at first but as we continued, it became harder. By this I mean availability was rough and time management was very concise. We approached production first for a location, as soon as we found our location we built off our storyboard and began filming. We ran into a roadblock because our area of filming was closed mostly when we needed to film so we found alternative locations to film in which ended up working out. We initially started lost somewhat and we needed a settled starting point and eventually throughout the project we were able to find that starting point and we were able to develop on it in which we got our outcome of this film."

CCR Question #2

Question #2 How does your product engage with audiences, and how would it be distributed as a real media text?

In this CCR question, I plan on discussing typical target audiences, product choices, and content. I plan on using the notes Mrs. Stoklosa gave us in order to successfully answer all parts of the question.

Script:

"Soo continuing our questions from my fellow aficionado's, my product focuses on engaging with you guys. Me and Selena created this film in order to target people on the younger side, mostly 16-35. We plan to distribute our first film through beginner friendly sights such as YouTube. Making the film accessible to the public is very important because in order for us to actually succeed as film makers, we need all the reviews and support we can get. We honestly don't have high expectations for this film and that's honestly good because if we set our expectations low it will be easier for you guys to collectively boost our confidence in film making."

So, unfortunately, we did only get the credit sequence done technically. We have input the credits where they are supposed to be, and the only problem were facing currently is that the font isn't correct. Not correct, as it doesn't fit the genre, and we need to find alternatives to change it to. We really used this opportunity to create the sequence and experiment with it to see what fits the best with what we were trying to achieve, and what we have so far is suiting us, but all we need is to find that font that we need.

This is what we currently have, as we aren't proud of how much editing we have done, but this upcoming week, we plan on finishing completely to focus on our CCR.

My partner and I, Selena, have now finished filming!!

We have begun putting our pieces together, and so far, we have most of our beginning clips input into Clipchamp. We haven't had the chance to put the rest of the clips in because we want to get the beginning finished first. Due to time management this week, we haven't been able to finish the credits completetly but we have our production logo and our shots that we plan to display the credit sequence in. The editing process for later in the week, due to time management once again, will be to at least get the credits done.  Besides that, what we have is our beginning sequence input into Clipchamp, and it will be displayed below.

This is the sequence my partner and I have achieved so far in our editing process, and it will be further developed throughout the week hopefully.

In this blog, I will be talking about what we have filmed so far and some issues that we ran into while trying to film. 

So my partner Selena and I have begun filming over by the tree tops park inside a trail. We got the beginning credit sequence, which we planned on doing, but due to issues with the park, they don't close until dark anymore, which is around 6:30-7:30, but they close at 6, so we won't be able to film in that area anymore. As an alternative, since we finished the only part of the woods we needed, we are going to go to the back of the church named St. Pauls Church and we will film in the back parking lot and what makes it good is that they have street lights that are disturbing and there are also trees and woods in that back area so we can still generate the feeling of just have gone out of the forest hike. So technically in conclusion, we are going to finish filming today, and then after we will edit.

These are not all the clips we have filmed.

 Juan, Manuela, Agustina, Sam, Trisha, Camila

Juan had trouble with the set design but now their group has it set now so they won't run into a road bump like that. They also had problems with their script because it was corny, so they scratched it and they are going to re-create it. Sam ran into the same problem and couldn't interview the parents because of time management which causes trouble because they need them to be a part of the film. Agustina had trouble with her mom because she also needed her to film for her. Camila ran into a problem with time management because she is animating her film opening which is very time consuming even spending lots of time on it. Manuela has trouble with scheduling with actors because multiple people have canceled on her, so she needs time to find different actors. My entire group had amazing ideas it was worth helping each other out individually and they especially helped me with audio because me and my partner were having trouble deciding on what kind of audio and where to put it like a soundtrack and non-diegetic audio and things of that aspect.

CCR Question Research #1

 1. How does your product use or challenge conventions, and how does it represent social groups or issues?

Unfortunately, my partner and I, Selena, have not yet filmed, so the conventions we will be using cannot be displayed yet. Although,  may tell you about the conventions we plan on using in this blog. As a part of one of my earlier blogs in the year, I will be discussing genre conventions associated with the horror genre. 

As a part of the first part of the question, my film will use conventions through various techniques such as close-ups, slow zooms, and sudden pans. For the second part of this question, I will speak about how it represents social groups, and I will speak about techniques that provide horror audiences what they want by using similar techniques in related films in order to build the fear that they crave.

Production Process

Due to availability issues, we will not be able to film this weekend, so we will plan smaller things, such as costume design, which is what I will be discussing in this blog. 

Costume design is crucial to appealing to the audience. The costume design we chose for Claire is a Lululemon dri fit white top and leggings because they are athletic wear and are meant to be worn out on adventures like this. The park ranger costume design is up to what we find at tree tops, and what the people there are wearing.

Due to availability issues, we will not be able to film this weekend, so we will plan smaller things, such as props, which is what I will be discussing in this blog. 

As a part of her personality, Claire is a phone user, and she utilizes her phone a lot. But in this instance, she is camping in the woods, so she is not able to communicate through her device. This is established by the numerous messages that will be sent when she regains service. It will also be evident that her style is adventurous, sweet, and nice through the wallpaper that the audience will see.

The background idea is of Selena, her younger self, and her friend from when she was in middle school.

The production of our logo took me a hefty time because there a various platform that I would be able to use to create the logo.

First, I would need to create the production logo itself and make a transition, so it looks smooth.

Next, I would need to be able to create a transparency effect, so I used a background element in Canva that allowed me to create the background transparent.

Next, I would add a snowy dark background to introduce the nighttime setting that will be taken place.

Finally, I would make the background completely dark so nothing is shown as white and so it wouldn't make the opening video look weird.

 Planning for Production

Production Company Name

The name for our production company will be AB11. The idea behind this production name is a derivative from A24 but instead we used the initials of our last names and the numbers we both wear in our respective sports and used it as the number. We chose A24 as inspiration because A24 is unanimously and undeniably the best horror production company to ever face the earth. They are also good at creating other movies not just horror. 

Casting

For our casting, we plan to use Selena, my partner, as the Claire, who is the main character. For the park ranger we plan on asking a real park ranger on helping us out in order to achieve that realistic feeling. The figure will be me, and we will be using a tripod to record those shots or handheld whatever suits the moment the best when we get to filming.

In this blog I will be including my initial thoughts on what me and my partner Selena have for audio.

The introduction music will most likely be something instrumental and melodic maybe to build that suspense because the instrumental music won't be sunshine and rainbows, but it will be to create suspense. Later when the first shot is established with the mysterious figure it will be instrumental a music once again and it will be to establish suspense and have the audience question what's going to happen. The music will not be fast paced like other horror films it will be slow keeping the audience engaged in the opening sequence. We may perhaps need to use foley for walking out of the forest maybe but if we decide to use foley it will be discussed in a later blog.

In this blog I will be talking about me and my partner Selena's ideas for props and lighting. 

For the props in our opening, we will be using props such as flashlights, phones, water, hiking equipment, and more. The flashlight in this instance will be showing how late at night it is and any dark setting in any horror film always leads to bad things which builds suspense. The phone particularly is going to be the most important prob of the opening because on her phone she will regain service and she will receive numerous text messages saying that there is a mysterious figure killing people late at night, establishing the suspense too. The water and hiking equipment will most likely only be used to show that she was on a trail or hiking late at night in the woods and she is just now returning to her car although it setting feels unsettling. 

For lighting me and my partner Selena plan on using backlit for most of the opening. The rest of the film the characters will be fully lit, and you'll be able to visibly see our characters to establish what's going on.

In this blog I will be discussing the costume and set decisions. 

For our set we are planning on using a dark forest area that is open and public late at night, but we plan to use some forest and some of the parking lot. The set will take place in Davie and there will possible location changes but most likely not. The set choice was decided as this because it creates a questionable area and makes the viewer try to understand why she is there in the first place. That is for the beginning of the opening but further it will be identified that she was on a trail when discussing with the park ranger. The parking lot is for backlit scenes that will provide a figure that is unidentifiable to create suspense and a tense feeling.

The costume we will be using for our main character, Claire, will be a beanie and covering clothes to establish that she was on a trail or maybe camping. She will have a camping bag with possibly a tent and lots of food and water. The park ranger will have a vest on and a nametag on to establish he works there.

This is basically the costume and set that will be established and the purposes for them.
